Many of Jewel's fans felt confused and betrayed by 0304 (2003), which found her plaintive Jodie Foster-esque persona replaced by something more resembling Christina Aguilera. Listeners were baffled by babytalk song titles either rejected by Prince or sniffed from an 11-year-old's text messages -- "U & Me = Love", "Run 2 U", "Yes U Can" -- only to pop the CD in and hear thumping four-on-the-floor house beats and a distinct lack of homespun steel string strummery. It seems Ms. Kilcher had hung up her zither and moved to civilization just in time for Gulf War II, penning a bouncy rant against George W. Bush entitled "America":
