Executive summary: Agnes of God

Meg Tilly is the younger sister of actress Jennifer Tilly. She was Oscar-nominated for her 1985 performance as a disturbed nun in Agnes of God with Jane Fonda and Anne Bancroft.

She is biracial, the product of a mixed marriage between an Anglo-American and a Chinese-American. Her parents divorced when Tilly was very young, and her mother married a hippie who took the family to Canada. Tilly took dance lessons from an early age, and after her family returned to America she performed with the Connecticut Ballet Company.

In her first film, 1980's Fame, Tilly was one of many dancers, but after that a nagging back injury made dancing painful, and she decided to become an actress instead. Tilly had featured roles in many films, and became identified with flaky, spooky, or haunted characters. In The Big Chill, she played the grieving but still horny girlfriend of unseen suicide victim Kevin Costner. In Leaving Normal, she played the victim of an abusive husband, and was taken in by Christine Lahti. In Psycho II, she played the psychopath's girlfriend.

She fell for Colin Firth while they were starring in Valmont, and bore his son, but he left her to raise the child alone. She was married to film producer Tim Zinnemann for long enough to have two children with him. He is the son of almost legendary filmmaker Fred Zinnemann, director of High Noon and From Here to Eternity. After divorcing Zinnemann, she married John Calley, the producer of Catch-22, Remains of the Day, and The Da Vinci Code, among many other films, himself thirty years older than Tilly. In 1998, he became Chairman of Sony Pictures. In 2002, they divorced.

Tilly's last work as an actress came in an excellent 1995 telefilm, Journey, with Jason Robards and Brenda Fricker. She has written Singing Songs, a novel about an abused girl, but in recent years she has otherwise devoted herself to raising her three children.

On her way into the 1997 Oscars ceremony, Tilly was approached by a reporter, but she cut him off stating, "I have nothing intelligent to say."
