He is first American to head British Petroleum, succeeding Tony Hayward. Dudley worked for Amoco for two decades, and came to British Petroleum when BP bought Amoco in 1998. He served five years as CEO of BP's joint venture with Russian investors, TNK-BP, resigning in 2008 after being accused by key Russian financiers of having "violated Russian laws ... and the shareholders agreement".
