After the war he completed his schooling at Boston College. Joining pro football as a defensive tackle in 1950, Donovan played in five Pro Bowls (1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1957) and also the world championship for two years (1958 and 1959). His Baltimore Colts jersey #70 was retired by the team in 1962 and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1968. Donovan was also the owner of the Valley Country Club in Baltimore.
