Flippo decided not to run for re-election to the House in 1990, instead choosing to run for Governor of Alabama; he finished a dismal fourth in the Democratic primary with only 17.27% of the vote, finishing behind former Governor Fob James, then-Attorney General Don Siegelman, and eventual nominee Paul Hubbert. Hubbert went on to lose the election by 13.50% to incumbent Governor H. Guy Hunt. [1] Church of Christ.
