The ubiqitous, uniform beat of reggaeton is called the "Dem Bow" after the Shabba Ranks track in which first appeared.
Shabba Ranks is also a noted homophobe, having once advocated the crucifixion of homosexuals in an appearance on the Channel 4 programme "The Word". This viewpoint did not come as a suprise to anyone with a Shabba Ranks album and a working knowledge of Jamaican slang.
