His first major client was then-unknown Dan Fogelberg, and he opened Front Line Management in the mid-1970s. He masterminded the revival of then-struggling MCA in the 1980s, and left MCA in 1989, riding the elevator down one floor in the same building where he formed a new subsidiary of Warner Music Group called Giant Records (since shuttered). His clients over the years have included Christina Aguilera, Jackson Browne, Neil Diamond, The Eagles, Guns n' Roses, Heart, Jewel, Journey, Morrissey, New Kids on the Block, Stevie Nicks, REO Speedwagon, Seal, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Van Halen.
In a 2008 transaction, Azoff's Front Line Management was acquired by Ticketmaster, where Azoff became a minority stockholder and was installed as Chief Executive Officer. He has also been sporadically involved as a moviemaker, with producer credits on films including Urban Cowboy, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and The Hurricane.
