Richard D. JamesAKA Richard David James

Born: 18-Aug-1971
Birthplace: Limerick, Ireland

Gender: Male
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Electronic Musician

Nationality: England
Executive summary: Aphex Twin

Grew up in Lanner, near Redruth, Cornwall, England. Best known stateside for his song Come To Daddy (1996), or rather for its sinister music video, directed by Chris Cunningham. James' first albums were rave singles released under a variety of aliases; his Aphex Twin moniker debuted with the single Digeridoo (1992) as well as the more cerebral Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (1992) and Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 (1994), the latter ostensibly composed while James was lucid-dreaming. Noted in his corpus are the seminal drill-and-bass Richard D. James Album and Girl/Boy EP (1996), released first seperately and later in tandem. After closing the 90s with the single Windowlicker (1999, again with a video by Cunningham), James's output slackened somewhat. So far in the 00s, his only releases as Aphex Twin have been the odds-and-ends compilation drukQs (2001) and the remix appendix 26 Mixes For Cash (2003). In 2005, he published the Analord series of ten 12"s, which sees him return to composition on analogue synthesizers. After a hiatus of several years, James won the coveted "comeback album" Grammy for Syro (2014), and registered a nondescript Soundcloud account, where he posted nearly 200 early tracks for free download.
