In 2001, he became the first Canadian to walk in space. He also issued the first song recorded in space, Jewel in the Night, Christmas Eve 2012. But he may be most remembered for achieving permanent cult status after the release in 2013 of a well-edited recording of David Bowie's Space Oddity, performed by Hadfield on the International Space Station.
