Gender: Male Religion: Born-Again Christian Race or Ethnicity: Middle Eastern Occupation: Religion Nationality: Ancient Israel Executive summary: Author of the fourth Gospel Often called Saint John the Apostle or the Evangelist, St. John was the youngest of the twelve apostles of Jesus. He is believed to have been about 25 years of age when he became a disciple, and along with his brother James, Christ called them "sons of thunder" for the volume of their fervor. According to Christian scripture, he sat next to Christ at the Last Supper, prayed with him in Gethsemane the night before his death, stood under the cross at the crucifixion, and along with St. Peter was the first to believe in the resurrection.
He is generally presumed to be the author of two New Testament books, the Gospel of John and the First Epistle of John, and is often assumed to have written the Second and Third Epistle of John (though some argue that another John authored these). He is colloquially assumed to have written of the Book of Revelation, though most scholars tend to believe that book's author, John the Divine, was a different person. Also not to be confused with John the Baptist.
