Executive summary: US Senator from Louisiana A strong supporter of the sanctity of marriages other than his own, Vitter admitted in 2007 to being a client of Deborah Jeane Palfrey's escort service immediately following the release of the service's telephone records. It is particularly ironic, as following the revelations of Bob Livingston's and Bill Clinton's marital infidelities, he stated "I think Livingston's stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess." (Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 20 December 1998). Also in 1998, his wife gave as answer to a question of what would happen if her husband were to stray: "I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary. If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me. I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage."
The Internet is replete with half-substantiated rumors of an alleged Vitter diaper fetish. Diaper or no diaper, the Senator never faced any Republicans demand to step down, and never faced charges for patronizing the services of prostitutes. Re-elected in 2010. He did not seek re-election to the Senate in 2016, instead running unsuccessfully for Governor of Louisiana.
