Harry Snyder AKA Harold Snyder Born: 9-Sep-1913 Birthplace: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Died: 14-Dec-1976 Location of death: Los Angeles, CA Cause of death: Cancer - Lung
Gender: Male Religion: Born-Again Christian Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Business Nationality: United States Executive summary: Co-Founder of In-N-Out Burger Harry Snyder was the day manager of a burger stand in Seattle when he met his future wife, Esther Johnson, in 1947. The next year they married and moved to Baldwin Park, California, where they opened their own burger drive-in, In-N-Out Burger, on 22 October 1948. Over the next thirty years, even as McDonald's and other fast-food chains opened thousands of restaurants, the Snyders managed In-N-Out with a "slow growth" philosophy, stressing fresh ingredients, quality preparation, and excellent customer service over rapid expansion and the corporate standard of constant cost-cutting calculations.
Snyder died in 1976 and his wife died in 2006, but the company and all its restaurants are still owned by their granddaughter, Lynsi Martinez Torres, and other members of the extended family. The chain's restaurants have no microwaves or freezers, its burgers and fries are legendary, and its customers are so loyal that In-N-Out is sometimes referred to as a cult. In-N-Out employees are still paid substantially higher wages than in other fast-food operations, the best workers are routinely promoted to management, and all offers to buy the business or sell franchises are politely rebuffed.
