Jeremy Hammond Born: 8-Jan-1985 Birthplace: Chicago, IL
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Occupation: Hacker Nationality: United States Executive summary: Lulzsec hacker First prosecuted in 2006 for felony hacking against a right-wing organization called Protest Warrior, which targeted anti-war activists. In the process he downloaded their customer database, which contained 5000 credit cards; this was interpreted under CFAA as credit card theft with damages to the tune of $2.5M. Hammond served two years in prison.
After his release in 2008, he became involved in Anonymous and LulzSec. One of his primary contacts in Lulzsec was a hacker named Sabu, who unbeknownst to him had already been arrested and was an FBI informant. Sabu directed Hammond and others toward potential targets, including attacks on some 2000 foreign government websites, and furnished them with security vulnerabilities and attack servers. Among these targets was Stratfor, a private intelligence firm. Hammond was involved in theft of internal emails, which were published by Wikileaks beginning in 2012.
In the months that followed, Hammond and five others in various countries were indicted for the AntiSec hacks. Hammond was held for eight months before charges were filed in late 2012. The judge overseeing the case refused to recuse herself when her husband was revealed to be a Stratfor client, information ironically revealed by the email leak. In November 2013, Hammond was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for felony hacking.
