It had sold fewer than 2000 copies, and since Cook had never signed a recording contract, it did not affect his amateur standing. In 2007, brother Andrew Cook was trying out for American Idol, and David was badgered into doing so as well. Andrew was not successful, but David's rendition of Jon Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer send him onward to Hollywood. Beginning in Season 7, contestants were permitted to play musical instruments, Cook electing electric or acoustic guitar for some of his performances. At the final round, young David Archuleta was the favorite, but Cook won with 56% of the audience vote. In late 2008, he released a second, self-titled album which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. The following year Cook began the "Declaration Tour", appearing at 120 medium-sized venues across the United States.
