Case AKA Case Woodard Born: ? Birthplace: Bronx, NY
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: Black Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Musician Nationality: United States Executive summary: Swingbeat soul singer The son of an aspiring professional singer, Case made his first ventures into performing for an audience at the age of five, when he began singing at gatherings of friends and relatives. A single-minded determination towards a music career had set in by his teen years, resulting in his leaving home at the age of 17 and spending two years living on the streets. A reconciliation with his parents and a job with the New York Housing Authority later allowed a more comfortable pursuit of his ambitions, with the singer recording demos during the evenings after work and eventually serving as a backing singer and writer for performers such as Usher and Jodeci.
Case's solo career was initiated in 1996 with the release of Touch Me, Tease Me, a song co-written by Mary J. Blige and featuring contributions from Foxy Brown. Its inclusion on the soundtrack of the highly successful Eddie Murphy vehicle The Nutty Professor ensured maximum exposure, and resulted in platinum status for the single. The subsequent release of his debut record further established Case's popularity with its combination of 70s-style romantic soul and contemporary hip-hop arrangements.
A follow up release in 1999, Personal Conversation, sought to refine the elements of the first album, and yielded two more popular singles, Faded Pictures and Happily Ever After. The personal nature of his songs was brought even more to the fore with Open Letter (2001), with every song being directed towards a specific individual in the singer's life.
