In early 2001, she began getting phone calls from Harvey Levin, producer of The People's Court, whom she had never met. Levin said he was looking for someone to replace the show's judge Jerry Sheindlin (husband of Judge Judy), and Milian has said that she thought the phone calls were a prank. She was in the middle of a murder trial, so Levin had called 16 times before she called him back.
She took over the program in March 2001. Milian lives in Miami with her husband, a circuit judge in Florida, and flies to New York City where she works two days a week taping about twenty cases for The People's Court. She has also played judges on As the World Turns and George Lopez.
