Gender: Male Religion: Jewish Race or Ethnicity: Middle Eastern Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Religion Nationality: Ancient Israel Executive summary: Ten Commandments Moses is remembered as the lawgiver of Judaism, and is considered a prophet of Bahá'í, Christianity, and Islam. As recounted in scriptures, he was born as the Pharaoh decreed death for all newborn male Hebrew children. Cast adrift in the Nile by his mother, he was found by the Pharaoh's daughter and adopted into the royal family.
In adulthood he is believed to have been called by God through the miracle of the burning bush. Moses demanded that the Pharaoh free the slaves, brought ten plagues upon Egypt, led the Jews out of slavery and into forty years of wandering in the wilderness, and brought the Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai. He offered additional edicts in what is called "The Book of the Covenant" (recounted in Exodus 21-23) and he is generally acknowledged as the author of the Torah (the first five books of the Christian Bible), although Moses' death is recounted in the fifth book, Deuteronomy. After leading his Levi tribe to the edge of the Promised Land, he was not allowed to enter Canaan -- punishment for an earlier moment of disobedience to God. Instead, according to the scriptures, he died in Moab at the age of 120. Father: Amram Mother: Yochebed Brother: Aaron Sister: Miriam Wife: Zipporah Son: Eliezer Son: Gershom
