Charles Tufts was a wealthy Massachusetts man who inherited and expanded his father's brickmaking business, and donated 20 acres on Boston's Walnut Hill (now College Hill) to establish the school now known as Tufts University. He later increased his donation to one hundred acres, and gave substantial sums of money for the college's construction. He was an ancestor of actor Sonny Tufts.
