Among her many subsequent roles, she is best remembered as the mysterious blonde in Hitchcock's classic North by Northwest, with Cary Grant. She also co-starred in Exodus with Paul Newman, and Nothing in Common with Jackie Gleason and Tom Hanks. On TV's Moonlighting, she played Cybill Shepherd's mother.
Saint studied drama for four years at Bowling Green, then seven more years at the Actors' Studio in New York. Her professional career started with live TV dramas, and she won rave reviews for her Broadway debut in 1953's The Trip to Bountiful with Lillian Gish. One performance of the play was broadcast live on NBC, which brought Saint to Elia Kazan's attention for On the Waterfront.
Politically, Saint has worked to illegalize the use of cell phones while driving.
