Sean Paul AKA Sean Paul Henriques Born: 8-Jan-1973 Birthplace: Kingston, Jamaica
Gender: Male Religion: Rastafarian Race or Ethnicity: Multiracial Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Disc Jockey Nationality: Jamaica Executive summary: DJ and Jamaican Dancehall star Now an international pop music figure, Sean Paul went through several career phases in his youth before settling on music. Initially, he trained as an athlete, representing his native Jamaica in international swimming and water polo competitions. This was followed by a period at the College of Arts, Science and Technology, studying commerce with a view to a career in hotel management. Both inevitably gave way for his interest in songwriting and, ultimately, performing.
Sean Paul made his recording debut in 1997 with the single Ladies Man, a #1 song on the Jamaican charts. This was followed up by the popular dancehall offering Baby Girl, and in 1998 by his first international hit Infiltrate. The same year he began working with The Dutty Cup Crew, releasing a series of singles that increased the singer's American profile (particularly in New York).
By the time of his debut album Stage One, Sean Paul had firmly established his popularity in the States, in part due to the track Top Shotta, which was featured on the soundtrack to the film Belly. In 2002 he entered the U.S. top 10 with the song Gimmie the Light, and in 2003 scored a #1 hit with Get Busy. Subsequent releases such as Like Glue and his duet with Beyonce Knowles, Baby Boy, did not serve in any way to slow the rising arc of his success.
