Founded 1870 in Chicago, IL, as the Chicago White Stockings. Charter member of the National League in 1876. Renamed the Chicago Cubs in 1902. Owned by Wrigley 1921-81, by Tribune Co. 1981-2007, by Samuel Zell 2007-09, and by Joe Ricketts and family since 2009. National Association of Base Ball Players champions in 1870; National League champions in 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1885, 1886, 1906, 1907, 1908, 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, 1945, and 2016. World Series winners in 1907, 1908, and 2016.
