Brooklyn Dodgers
SPORTS FRANCHISE
Founded 1883 as the Brooklyn Greys, playing in the Inter-State Association, a minor league. Played in the American Association 1884-89, and joined the National League in 1890. Played under various and frequently changing nicknames including the Bridegrooms, Robins, Superbas, and Trolley Dodgers, gradually coming to be called the Brooklyn Dodgers by the late 1910s. Relocated to become the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958.
In Brooklyn, won league championships in the ISA in 1883 and the AA in 1889, and National League pennants in 1890, 1899, 1900, 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, and 1956. Won a single World Series championship, in 1955.
