Parasitic infection of nematode species Trichinella spiralis, often arising from consumption of undercooked pork or game. The cause of the disease was first determined in London by James Paget in 1835, but the full life cycle of the parasite was not determined until decades later. Cases rarely arise in the developed world, but infections are quite common elsewhere.
